OUR VISION
We have created a garden for people to
meet and work together to plan, produce, and harvest.
It is in working together that we build a community that cares…
PURPOSE
When Capital Vision made the Upper Eastside their new home, they also acquired a large plot of land. The church community decided it was best to create a space for friends and family of the neighboring area to connect with the church. What better way to share the love and the land than to create a community garden! It is our desire to share the love of Jesus and unite the community through the abundance the Lord has given us.
ABOUT THE GARDEN
The garden is 40,000 square feet of fertile ground that was established in 2010. Many volunteer hours have been spent to tame the weeds, build raised garden beds and many structures to aid in the gardening experience. In 2019 we have 30 raised beds and 10 established in-ground garden plots. We have more space to grow if the demand increases.
In the center of the garden is a park and a gazebo which we use for summer activities such as volleyball, badminton, water games, youth group meetings, classes, potlucks, weddings and even worship services. A hoop house/greenhouse provides a place for us to start seeds early or get out of the rain during a down pour! There is a shed that keeps garden tools to share. There are many berry bushes and fruit and nut trees, an herb garden and one third of the garden is designed to grow food to share. The garden is surrounded by fencing and secured with locks. We are supported through donations and volunteer workers.
